Point Of View.

Here are a few videos relating back to "counter culture" stuff. :) I do not endorse the views of any one of the people involved in these videos, however, what i do find amazing is the abundance of ideals, reasons and logic that go into one specific topic. To me some of the things said are ridiculous, however, who is to say which is right or wrong?

so The Beatles and John Lennon were against God?

At the end of it all what really matters is what we believe and how we organize our needs vs. our beliefs...
Where do u stand?

Hip HOP Hip HOP

I don't know if you realize this but Hip Hop has been the soul of counter culture for the last 35 years! Originating in the Bronx (1 of the 5 boroughs in New York) in the 1970's, Hip hop provokes freedom of speech, anti-government campaigns targeting issues regarding the media, inspiring aid to disaster area's (Hurricane Katrina), they have pretty much covered everything! Hip Hop incorporated MC'ing, DJ'ing and Break Boying to create a social movement that has spread around the world infecting people both rich and poor.

 Some Hip Hop legends include:

Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five:

Run-DMC :

Afrika Bambaataa:

The Funky Four + 1 :

The Sugarhill-Gang:

Music has transformed dramatically in recent years, it has moved from being the voice of a counter culture into a mass culture craze. With regards to Hip Hop it has inspired social change through its messages, regardless of the Big Booty, Cash Money and Blunt Wrap disguising them. For those of you that don't know, Hip Hop is the result of Rock ( Aerosmith and Run-DMC made the song Walk this Way) so next time you feel the urge to tell your fellow head banger how dreadful Drake and Shady are try turning those judgmental eyes towards your own icons... Not to say that all Hip Hop is great, in any genre there are some songs that shouldn't be.

Many consider Hip Hop controversial and a waste of time, yet it has become a global phenomenon in its ability to unify races, classes and cultures, which, for the most part is undeniable. Societies have argued that this form of "Art" is riddled with violent lyrics that degrade women and are uninspiring, even though it has transformed into a multi-billion dollar industry. I wonder how the OG's ( Original Gangsters) of this "insignificant jungle music" would feel about the negative connotations attributed to their music. Regardless of the fact that Hip Hop has been the driving force behind most major influences around the world. Hip Hop has created a desire to "Not Follow" leading to an assortment of weird and wonderful new types of people. do you know of any Emo band that has had the same or partial effect of Hip Hop....?

SO, is it not funny to think that even if you hate Hip Hop, it HAS influenced every aspect of our daily lives for so long we don't notice it any more. In fact we claim it, High tops and fitted's in my city seem to be for Emo girls, changing perception's daily. It is inescapable. so where do you stand, are you a Hater or Appreciator? PEACE.

Struting like a G.O.D

Currently the most amusing thing to me is how we are all, as youngsters perceived to know "NO BETTER".

Regardless of how much more we know about aspects of our own lives or, heaven forbid, point out the faults in elders we seem to be a generation of fuck ups or slackers. If you have never experienced this wild and wonderful sensation, CONGRATULATIONS. We are forced to grow up differently and with that we are, at its essence, all contributing to one big counter culture called 'generation X',

So compadres how about we try make a combined effort to amplify our..., how should i put this, intelligence! Because it is easy to argue back and end up fighting, even easier to give up and call it a day, but i have no intention of doing any such thing. Our dividing lines are age, music and technologically. So make an effort, take time to explain yourself, be nice, but do not take shit. As for everything else- INHALE count to 10 and EXHALE ;)

Lets make a combined effort to forge our counter culture into something more than just a stupid Roman symbol. We the future, lets make it enjoyable, or at least break our backs trying to. We literally are the coolest group of counter culture misfits the world has seen yet, big ups kids.  Seriously we must know a bit more about somethings than sweet old mum and dad. Not to say all parents are kinda wack, some are the best... just ask Jonah lewis.

What i got to say is ill and got skill, I'm all for change because out of everything it pays.Wake up and give thanks to to fact that we are in one of the most beautiful places on earth to be, not to god, but to yourself and those 'hill billy's' you live with. If anything, we can all agree we love them unconditionally. No matter what issue, tissue? PEACE.

I guess the best way to do this is to jump straight in, I am kind of new to this whole Blogging thing, so bear with me. I am starting this Blog to focus on subcultures in and around the world I live in.

My starting point is music, it has expressed the views of people apposed to mass culture, both now and in the past, and the views of those determined to stay up to date with current POP culture trends and waves.

The plan is to go back to the origins of counter culture and discover how people wound up feeling the need to fight the “oppressor” with words and melody. A peaceful, yet powerful way of taking all the information given out to the public and turning it on its head. With the majority of us all following blindly to the drum of societies beat and the rest of us doing our best to be “different” a dividing line has emerged creating two worlds in one city.

Not sure bout the rest of the planet but Cape Town is starting to feel like one big freak show, in the best way possible. There is always something new and exciting to look at, someone to make you laugh, or something to do.

We got the drugs, the thugs, the rich kids and poverty striving in our Mother City and I plan to share it all with you. This is for the beat that moves your feet. PEACE.
